I took my 10 year old son (who was an altar boy for our SSPX chapel) to a Novus Ordo funeral. He had never witnessed the N.O. I didn’t tell the kids much about it except that we were going to sit in the back and not receive Communion.

When we left the Mass, which was in a small very traditional looking church, I asked my son “what did you think of that?” And he without pause said “It was FAKE!”

I asked him if he knew when the consecration took place and he answered “well, they were ringing the bells so I figured that was it.”

This was an innocent reaction from a boy who’d never experienced anything but the One True Mass. Very interesting!

My husband and I found Tradition over 27 years ago, quite by accident. We did not know it existed. Through that first SSPX Mass, we met a family who introduced us to Fr. James Wathen, an independent priest who was ordained before the Second Vatican Council. He could not in good conscience say the NO Mass. He was a priest for about 50 years before his death. He told us that we could not attend the NO for any reason; not for weddings, funerals, etc. and his reasoning is so sound on this. He wrote 2 major works: "The Great Sacrilege" and "Who Shall Ascend?" You obviously read a great deal. These works would be well worth your time.

Virtually all priest that were doing NO and TLM gave up NO even if being stripped of pay and position by the local bishop, they just could not do both for the reasons you discuss in this podcast. However i have seen some reverent, NO, done in Latin, facing Ad orientum, but the NO liturgy. Benedictine Monks in Still river for instance. Knee and on the tongue but the liturgy is NO. I have seen those thrive too. I still cant do it personally. Unicorn NO ... never heard that... like it. :-)
